The University of Queensland is set to become the first major uni in the world to offset 100% of its electricity use through it’s own renewable energy asset.
UQ’s new $125M solar farm will help the uni become energy self-sufficient by 2020, and “provide teaching, research, and engagement opportunities in addition to its environmental and financial benefits”, according to Vice Chancellor Peter Hoj.
The costs of the project will be offset by energy savings, which currently run over $22M a year for the university.
