A group of year eight students in Central Victoria kicked off a School Strike scheduled for 30 November in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to tell politicians to take their futures seriously.
They are calling for urgent action to move Australia beyond fossil fuel projects (e.g. #StopAdani’s mega coal mine) and get the job done of moving us to 100% renewable energy for all. They are supported by many Repower partners, including the Australia Youth Climate Coalition and GetUp!
“We feel sorry for the future generations who don’t even get a say in the world that we’re creating, who will have to deal with even more extreme weather, who will never get to see the Great Barrier Reef and other threatened icons and species.”
“What’s the point of learning facts at school if the people in power ignore them?” argue the teenagers who were inspired by Greta Thunberg, a fifteen year old girl in Sweden, who has been striking from school in front of the Swedish parliament.
You can join other students striking from school over the political inaction on climate change. Here is more information on why they’re striking from school over climate change inaction.
